Liane Sadler, renaissance transverse flute | Elias Conrad, lute
Liane Sadler & Elias Conrad propose a deep immersion in the song and the forms of French dance from the early 16th century. The transfer of the melody between song and dance explores in this program that was prepared during the musical residence S-EEEmerging that the pair will do in Torroella de Montgrí between July 14 to 21 to focus on deepening historical and original arrangements, tracing the transmission of melodies and forms over time. Incredibly dark yet rich and unique colour pallets of this music are brought to the fore through intertwined reductions and improvisations. These elements are woven together and unravelled again in the music found in the collections of Pierre Attaignant (c. 1494- c. 1551), Jacques Moderne (1495-1562) and Simon Gorlier (active around the 1550’s) and includes prominent composers such as Claudin of Sermisy (c. 1490-1562), Clément Janequin (c. 1485-1558), Josquin des Prez (c. 1450-1521) and Pierre Certon (c. 1510-1572), among others that will be included in the concert program. A special feature of this project is the pioneering use of tenor and bassetto flutes inspired by those made by the 16th-century French flute maker Claude Rafi. These instruments have been specially crafted by Boaz Berney for Liane Sadler in the luxuriously low pitch of 392 Hz, creating a unique and ethereal sound sphere.
