Born in Venice in 1670, Antonio Caldara quickly became a renowned composer. He had a successful career, full of encounters and travels that took him from Venice to Vienna by way of Rome. His singular musical style reflects the meeting of Venetian and Germanic tastes and influenced in many of his contemporaries, until the point of becoming a source of inspiration for the composers from the first Viennese school (Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven). This program, which the group The Banshies will present during their S-EEEmerging residency in Torroella de Montgrí from July 14 to 21, traces Caldara’s journey between the musical landscapes of the Most Serene Republic of Venice and those of the Austrian Empire’s capital, highlighting the encounters that shaped him, from his teachers to his rivals.
